I earned my Master of Education Degree with a concentration in Counselor Education from the University of Texas at Austin in 2003.
I completed my supervised internship and became fully licensed by the State of Texas as a professional counselor in 2006 (LPC #60323). Click here to see the requirements for licensure.
I taught a variety of subjects including Art, Social Studies, and German at Huntington-Surrey School (grades 9-12) in Austin from 1995-2010 and served as the school's counselor from 2006-2010. I provided academic guidance and mental health counseling to adolescents and their familes in a small, non-traditional private high school.
At The wright House, I have provided case management services and mental health counseling to individuals living with HIV/AIDS. In the course of this work, I have become familiar with LGBTQ issues, grief and loss counseling, chronic disease management, and substance abuse treatment.
Before studying to become a counselor, I earned BFA and MFA degrees and practiced and taught art for more than 15 years. I enjoy working with artists and believe I have some insight into the particular clinical issues affecting creative individuals.
I have completed continuing education and training in topics including:
HIV Medical Case Management (2012),
Understanding Personality Disorders (2010),
The Ethics of HIV Disease and Addictions Counseling (2010),
HIV Case Management with Motivational Interviewing (2010),
New Trends in Cognitive Behavior Therapy (2010),
Medications for Mental Disorders (2009),
Treating Child Sexual Abuse (2009),
Beyond Gender: Understanding the Ways Men and Women Grieve (2009),
Dual Disorders: Mental Illnesses & Chemical Dependency (2009),
Psychological Trauma (2007)
